Migrate to Cloud VPS

Seamlessly move your legacy VPS to RamNode's modern cloud platform

Migrating from a legacy VPS to RamNode Cloud is straightforward. We offer both manual migration options and assisted migration for complex setups.

    Migration Options

    Option 1: Fresh Installation (Recommended)

The cleanest approach is to set up a new cloud instance with a fresh OS installation and migrate your data and configurations manually. This ensures optimal performance on the new platform.

    1. Launch a new cloud instance with your desired OS
    2. Install and configure your applications
    3. Transfer data using rsync, scp, or your preferred method
    4. Update DNS to point to the new instance
    5. Test thoroughly before decommissioning the old VPS

    Option 2: Image-Based Migration

For more complex setups, you can create an image of your existing VPS and upload it to the cloud platform.

    1. Create a disk image of your current VPS (using dd or similar tools)
    2. Convert the image to QCOW2 or RAW format if needed
    3. Upload the image to cloud storage or contact support for transfer assistance
    4. Import the image to the cloud platform
    5. Launch an instance from your custom image

    Option 3: Assisted Migration

For business-critical applications or complex migrations, our support team can assist with the migration process. This service is available for a fee.

    Pre-Migration Checklist

    • Backup Everything

Create full backups of all data before starting

    • Document Configurations

Note all custom configurations, installed software, and services

    • Test Applications

Ensure your applications are compatible with the target OS version

    • Plan DNS Changes

Prepare DNS records and lower TTL values in advance

    • Schedule Downtime

If possible, perform migration during low-traffic periods

    Post-Migration Steps

    1
Verify all services are running correctly
    2
    Test application functionality thoroughly
    3
    Update monitoring and backup systems
    4
Update DNS records to point to new IP addresses
    5
Monitor performance and adjust resources as needed

    Important

Keep your old VPS running for at least 24-48 hours after DNS changes to ensure all traffic has migrated. DNS propagation can take time.
