Domain Management

Manage primary, addon, and subdomains for your hosting account

    Understanding Domain Types

    Primary Domain

The main domain associated with your hosting account. This is set when your account is created and points to your public_html directory.

    Addon Domains

Additional domains that can be hosted on your account. Each addon domain has its own separate folder and can function as a completely independent website.

    Subdomains

Extensions of your main domain (e.g., blog.yourdomain.com). Useful for creating separate sections of your website.

    Parked Domains (Aliases)

Additional domains that point to the same content as your primary domain. Useful if you have multiple domain names for the same website.

    Adding an Addon Domain

Host multiple websites on a single cPanel account:

    1. Log into cPanel
    2. Find "Domains" section
    3. Click "Addon Domains"
    4. Enter the new domain name
    5. Subdomain and document root will auto-populate (you can customize)
    6. Optionally create an FTP account for this domain
    7. Click "Add Domain"

    Important

Before adding an addon domain, make sure to update the domain's nameservers at your domain registrar to point to RamNode's nameservers.

    Creating a Subdomain

    1. In cPanel, go to "Domains" → "Subdomains"
    2. Enter subdomain name (e.g., "blog" for blog.yourdomain.com)
    3. Select the domain from dropdown
    4. Document root will auto-populate (can be customized)
    5. Click "Create"

    Parking a Domain

Make a domain show the same content as your primary domain:

    1. In cPanel, go to "Domains" → "Aliases" (or "Parked Domains")
    2. Enter the domain name to park
    3. Click "Add Domain"

    Redirecting Domains

Automatically redirect visitors from one domain to another:

    1. In cPanel, go to "Domains" → "Redirects"
    2. Select redirect type (Permanent 301 or Temporary 302)
    3. Choose domain to redirect from
    4. Enter destination URL
    5. Choose redirect options (www., wild card)
    6. Click "Add"

    Managing DNS Zones

Advanced DNS management for your domains:

    1. In cPanel, go to "Domains" → "Zone Editor"
    2. Select your domain
    3. Click "Manage" to view/edit DNS records
    4. Add A, CNAME, MX, TXT, or other records as needed

    Common DNS Record Types

    A Record

Points domain to an IP address

    CNAME

Creates an alias for another domain

    MX Record

Specifies mail server for the domain

    TXT Record

Used for SPF, DKIM, verification, etc.

    Pointing Domain to RamNode

To use a domain with your shared hosting, update nameservers at your registrar:

    RamNode Nameservers

    ns1.ramnode.com
    ns2.ramnode.com

    Steps to Update Nameservers

    1. Log into your domain registrar (GoDaddy, Namecheap, etc.)
    2. Find domain management or DNS settings
    3. Look for "Nameservers" or "DNS" section
    4. Change to custom nameservers
    5. Enter ns1.ramnode.com and ns2.ramnode.com
    6. Save changes
    7. Wait 24-48 hours for propagation

    Removing Domains

    Removing Addon Domain

    1. Go to "Addon Domains" in cPanel
    2. Find the domain to remove
    3. Click "Remove"

    Warning

Removing a domain will delete its document root folder and all files inside. Make sure to backup important data before removing domains.

    Troubleshooting

    Domain Not Working After Adding

    • Check that nameservers are properly configured at registrar
    • Wait for DNS propagation (up to 48 hours)
    • Verify domain is added correctly in cPanel
    • Check that files are in the correct document root

    DNS Propagation

    Check DNS propagation status:

    • Use online tools like whatsmydns.net
    • Clear your browser cache
    • Flush your local DNS cache
    • Try accessing from different devices/networks

    Best Practices

    • • Keep DNS records up to date
    • • Use descriptive subdomain names
    • • Organize addon domains with clear folder structure
    • • Document any custom DNS configurations
    • • Use 301 redirects for permanent URL changes
