    Running Out of Bandwidth

    Understanding bandwidth limits and overages

What happens when you use all your allocated bandwidth depends on whether you have a Cloud instance or SolusVM (Legacy) VPS.

    Cloud Instances

Once your cloud instance uses all of its allocated bandwidth, it will begin to accrue overages:

    Overage Rate

$0.004 per GB of overage traffic

    No Suspension

Your service continues running without interruption

    Cloud Bandwidth Advantages

Cloud instances don't suspend when you exceed bandwidth - they simply charge for overages. This means your services stay online even during traffic spikes.

    What Counts Toward Cloud Bandwidth?

    Counted

    • • Outgoing public traffic only

    Not Counted

    • • Incoming traffic
    • • Private network traffic
    • • Internal/loopback traffic

    SolusVM (Legacy) VPS

If your SolusVM VPS uses all of its bandwidth for the month:

    Suspension Notice

SolusVM VPS are suspended immediately upon reaching bandwidth limits. To avoid downtime, monitor your usage and purchase additional bandwidth before you run out.

    • Automatic Suspension: Service will be suspended
    • Purchase More: You can buy additional bandwidth
    • Advance Purchase: Or buy ahead of time to prevent suspension

    Monitoring Your Bandwidth Usage

    Cloud Instances

    1. Log into the Cloud control panel
    2. Select your instance
    3. View the "Metrics" or "Bandwidth" tab
    4. See real-time and historical usage

    SolusVM VPS

    1. Log into SolusVM control panel
    2. View bandwidth graph on main page
    3. Check percentage used
    4. See reset date

    Estimating Bandwidth Needs

    Web Hosting

    Small Site

    1-2 MB pages

    ~50,000 views/100GB

    Medium Site

    3-5 MB pages

    ~100-150K views/500GB

    Large Site

    10+ MB pages

    1+ TB depending on traffic

    Streaming

    480p Video

    ~500 MB/hr

    per viewer

    720p Video

    ~1 GB/hr

    per viewer

    1080p Video

    ~2-3 GB/hr

    per viewer

    Reducing Bandwidth Usage

    Use a CDN

Content Delivery Networks like CloudFlare, Fastly, or AWS CloudFront can dramatically reduce your origin server bandwidth by caching content at edge locations.

    Optimize Images

    • • Compress images before uploading
    • • Use WebP, JPEG 2000 formats
    • • Implement lazy loading
    • • Use responsive images

    Enable Compression

    Enable gzip or brotli for:

    • • HTML, CSS, JavaScript
    • • JSON and XML
    • • SVG images, Font files

    Implement Caching

    • • Browser caching with proper headers
    • • Server-side caching (Redis, Memcached)
    • • Application-level caching
    • • Database query caching

    Pro Tip: Private Networks

For Cloud instances, create a private network to transfer data between your instances for free. This doesn't count toward bandwidth limits.

    Purchasing Additional Bandwidth

    For SolusVM VPS

    1

    Log into Client Area

Navigate to your RamNode Client Area
    2

    Go to Services

Select Services → View Available Addons
    3

    Select Bandwidth Addon

Choose bandwidth addon and which VPS to apply it to
    4

    Complete Order

Review and complete your bandwidth order

    For Cloud Instances

No need to purchase additional bandwidth - overages are automatically billed at $0.004/GB. You can upgrade your instance to a plan with more included bandwidth if you consistently exceed your allocation.
