    Available operating systems for SolusVM KVM VPS

    Legacy Platform Notice

    No new OS images are being provided for Legacy KVM servers. You must either provide your own custom ISO image, or migrate to Cloud VPS for access to the latest operating system images.

    The following operating systems are available to install on our VPS through the SolusVM Control Panel. Anything not on the order form can be installed through the control panel after ordering.

    Important Note

    This article applies to SolusVM KVM VPS only. Cloud servers have different OS options available through the Cloud control panel.

    Special Notes

    License Requirements

    Operating systems marked with * require licenses:

    • cPanel/WHM: Must purchase cPanel license (available from RamNode)
    • CloudLinux: Requires CloudLinux license
    • MikroTik: Requires MikroTik license for full features

    Network Appliances

    Network appliances marked with ^ (like Vyatta) are specialized routing/firewall distributions. Ensure you understand their configuration before installation.

    OpenBSD IPv6 Issue

    OpenBSD may have issues with our IPv6 setup. See our OpenBSD IPv6 guide for the fix.

    How to Install

    Using Templates (Fastest)

    1. Log into SolusVM control panel
    2. Click "Reinstall" tab
    3. Select your desired template
    4. Set root password
    5. Click "Reinstall"
    6. Wait 5-10 minutes for completion

    Using ISOs (More Options)

    1. Log into SolusVM control panel
    2. Click "Media" tab
    3. Select desired ISO and mount it
    4. Reboot VPS
    5. Use VNC to complete installation
    6. Unmount ISO after installation
    7. Reboot to boot from disk

    Choosing an Operating System

    For Web Hosting

    • CentOS 7: Industry standard, excellent for cPanel
    • Ubuntu 18.04/20.04: Modern, well-documented
    • Debian: Stable, lightweight

    For Development

    • Ubuntu: Large community, lots of tutorials
    • Fedora: Cutting edge, latest software
    • Arch Linux: Rolling release, complete control

    For Minimal Systems

    • Alpine Linux: Extremely lightweight
    • Debian: Minimal base installation

    Can't Find What You Need?

    Most Linux distributions can be installed by uploading your own ISO or using netboot. Contact support if you need help installing an OS not listed here.

    Custom ISOs

    If you need an operating system not available in our ISO library:

    1. Find a publicly accessible URL for the ISO
    2. Open a support ticket with the ISO URL
    3. We can make it available in your SolusVM control panel

    Windows

    Windows can be installed on KVM VPS using your own license and installation media. Note:

    • Requires valid Windows Server license
    • Not available as a template
    • Must be installed via ISO and VNC
